About this Video

Democracy is self-government. That's about more than parliaments, political parties and voting, it's about how we govern ourselves in our everyday lives - in workplaces, schools and streets. We desperately need new ways of collectively making decisions. The answer isn't just about reconnecting people with politicians they don't trust and their distant and remote parliaments we need new kinds of democracy too - everyday democracy.

About this Video

There are many myths about liberal democracy: that all of us are free to make our own decisions, that it is the greatest organization of society ever achievable, that it is the end point in an emancipatory struggle against systems of oppression, and that as uncontrolled artists we are free to create anything we want out of our lives. I believe democracy has to be understood through its most sophisticated tool for manufacturing consent - the spectacle. Democracy itself is represented to us from within the spectacle. Now more than ever we see that it's the spectacle which operates our lives, drawing everything in, recuperating it, and spitting it back out for popular consumption.

About this Video

Let Us Rise is a new kind of group, a community that creates space for individuals, non-profits, congregations, local businesses, clubs, and other groups to work together to create a society rooted in love, personal responsibility, and democracy. We are doing this by coordinating the People's Campaign, where every one of you, and every organization, can participate in creating a positive vision for Colorado and the country. We will coalesce the results of our visioning into an independent People's Platform. You'll have a chance to give feedback on the Platform, adopt it, and participate in a democratic process to create a collective action plan to implement our vision.
