This is an interesting piece. My parents lived in Fairplay and I actually attended one of these races! It was fun. I had never seen anything like it. Your short was fun too, I liked learning the origin of this unique event. Thanks
Great video, Curtis. Just shows how far you can go if you never forget to "Reload". See you at the top of Mosquito pass-hopefully many more times. R Pedretti
i met curtis imrie thru a mutual addiction & admiration of wild burros. pack burro racing just may be the only remaining sport in america that is driven by "the sport of it" rather than greed. these guys & gals work hard every year for the few hours of arduous glory at race day. no free agents holding out for another million, no steroid drug addicts, just pure old american sportsmen. & now i see the burro as a hell of a good representative of politics. the burro is honest, straighforward, humble & intelligent. if we could only have a politician or two with the same characteristics! tom taylor, wild horse & wild burro adopter. volunteer for blm's wild horse & burro program.
PACK BURRO RACING, COLORADO'S OLDEST INDIGENOUS SPORT! FINALLY A PEEK BEHIND THE CURTAIN OF THE PACK BURRO RACING COMMUNITY AND A LOOK AT SOME REAL FOLKS. NO WIMPS ALLOWED, A REAL PART OF THE OLD WEST!
Great, great, great. A real "kick in the head". Enjoyed it! --Margaret Makar, Director and producer "Welcome to Longhopes (donkey shelter)" a video in the REAL COLORADANS series on rmpbs.org's Panorama page.
I wanted to ask you if there is anyway to have Chasing Tail be shown in the rmpbs.org? It'll be nice to see if we can show this short in PBS station. Please let me know.

I think that with the work you have done that this would be a great addition for the independent film market and especially starting with the film festivals in Colorado. I think the burro racing circuit could use more films using your expertise so we can promote Colorado's only indigenous sport and what great animals donkeys really are. A sharp, lively and fun short, great work!
I work at a public library and the independent films are a hot item at our library. I submitted this comment originally and I just wanted to let you know that you can contact me for more information on the independent films we carry and short films. We host a local film festival and I think this should be included.
Hi Shelley Hall,
Yes, we would love to have Chasing Tail at your local Film Festival. You can either contact me through my website:www.gatoproductions.com or you can contact Curtis Imrie.

I also submitted this comment and think that you would really enjoy seeing these races and the people that organize them and participate. They are great people.
I think this looks like a fun film. I have seen the Burro races in the city of Fairplay, and I must say it was something I had never realized even existed. This is a great way for me to learn about the origin of the races, and the man who started it all.
I agree. It's not interesting, I don't get the San Francisco comments (guess you have to live there or be as old as the talent is), and the payoff is very lame. It also contributes to the continued misperception of Colorado as still mired in the Old West.... even though we have Norad here, many high-tech industries and a standard of living that other states can only dream of.
And yes. It's slow and boring.
Geez, I never thought of NORAD as being one of Colorado's assets -- just the opposite. Each to his own, though I'd rather hang out with donkeys than work in a high-tech industry any day. --- BurroGrrl
