The dialectic synchronicity
conveyed by this film with Andre Gide's animistic tri-latereralism defies further comment other than to say: What a ball of wax is Man! How wonderful his works; how short his days. If this be error and upon me proved, I never writ nor never blogged.
Democracy is what you make it. Campaigns should either be be publicly financed or campaign contributions should be limited to small amounts - whether from individuals or corporations. Not an abridgement of free speech but not allowing any one to have more "speech" than anyone else.
Film Maker's comment:
I got arrested demonstrating and protesting the Vietnam War and then 17 years later I found myself in Europe needing a job. I ended up educating soldiers for 7 years and burned off all that 60's karma, stereotyped views of soldiers as evil meanies with Robert McNamara as Donald Rumsfield. I just see people trying to be themselves and understand the poem of their lives as best they can.
This film fails. It’s not about democracy. It's about propaganda, fascism, and impreialism. It’s a fairy tale myth of what service members are supposed to be about. The military is for sheep and pawns not strong individuals. And when his face gets burned off and his girlfriend leaves him what will the military give him in return? His life is meaningless and his death in this pointless war will mean even less. The truth is that while he is off to war someone else is enjoying his girlfriend and the military he joined, is all about an adolescent boy’s desire to be a part of a big bad gang. Just like all gangs, the marines won’t be there for you when you are blown into pieces and not longer useful to them. Your life is a lie and when you are dead your family can know that you died so Haliburton stock could raise just a little more. Oh yeah, where’s Osama? Oh that’s right, this war isn’t about that and never was. Enjoy your horrible pointless death. You volunteered for it you stupid ignorant sheep.
I swear you sound like a Evil King out of a Lord of the Rings rip-off "You ignorant sheep". Listen man, i', sorry if you had a terrible experience with the wife and your best friend, but hell man, most of us have better life's than that. This film was superb in the fact that it shows democracy as ever changing, and multi-meaning symbol.
This film is awesome! The previous comment proves it. It stirs thought. Makes you wonder what democracy is all about really. Questions the fairy tale. Confronts the propaganda. Makes you face the truth about being so brainwashed to the point of trading the ones you love for fake ideals. It's brilliant.
