This film fails. Democracy means the majority rule. In America the majority of people are opposed to gay marriage so in a true democracy these families would not exist. True democracy means that the mob rules and that minorities have no rights. That these families are allowed to exist is because we have a system that protects miniorities from democracy.

I think this person forgets the phrase "tyranny of the majority". Yes, we do not have a true democracy as much as a respresentative republic in America, but true democracy is not mob rule. I am currently working in Africa assisitng the government of Botswana to bolster and strengthen its response to HIV and AIDS. As we say here "We may not all be infected but we are all affected". Nothing could be more true. Protecting those who are vulnerable and not necessarily part of the majority is what makes TRUE democracy such a noble ideal. Not the fact that the needs of all can be met, but that meeting the needs of as many as possible is not done so at the expense of those not currently in the majority. Let us not so easily forget that our country was founded by the minority seeking refuge from a rigid system of majority rule. To adhere to those principles is not an easy feat, however it is what has made our country so successful and will continue to do so as long as we remember that hertiage.
