I really liked this video. The music was very... warm. It reminded me of something I would've heard at this old, used bookstore many years ago in Atlanta. It leant a sort of authenticity to the idea that these are "just people." A lot of films I've seen have been caught up in their own sense of self-importance. This was a very humble... and a very personal observation piece.
That said, I don't think it adequately answers the question: "What is Democracy?"
To explain my opinion, a close friend of mine brought up the idea that a lot of people talk about "love"... but very few of them could come up with an even half-way defendable explanation of what love is. You can throw out metaphors, and you can use similies, you can say "Love is like...", but it's very hard to actually get close enough to touch it.
Democracy is easier... but the same methods that fails to explain Love cannot explain what Democracy is. More than what it "looks like"... what is it? Democracy is actually something that you CAN get within arms reach of... even if you can't touch it.
That said... I liked your movie enough to write about it. -DH
The prior comments of "sad but moving" are right on. This will go down as the worst (and most costly) strategic blunder by a sitting President in US history, and the video captures well the sadness and wonder at how our self-absorbed public can lose interest and focus on it, while a few brave souls with integrity speak out.
Thanks for the video. It is sad to think about how complacent many people have become towards the war in Iraq. It's good to see that community members and filmmakers are taking it upon themselves to bring this issue back into perspective.
